Heavy rain has cut power and roads in South Westland - and there's more rain to come

Heavy rain has cut power and roads in South Westland - and there's more rain to come

State Highway 6 from Haast to Fox is closed at Thirsty Creek, while power is off to Fox Glacier and south to Paringa.

Power has been out to homes between Fox to Franz Josef.

Residents at Fox Glacier are advised to conserve water, and a boil water notice continues to be in place.

MetService lead meteorologist, Phillipa Murdoch, says the heaviest rain is being felt in Fiordland and Southern Westland.

She says it will start to spread north and most of the West Coast is going to see heavy rain and possibly thunderstorms.

The heavy rain is likely to continue until tomorrow.
