    Fire crews will return to the scene today of a big fire near Kaikoura


    The large scrub blaze is not being treated as suspicious after it crept dangerously close to State Highway One near Kaikoura.

    The major highway was closed down yesterday as four helicopters and three ground crews battled the blaze at its peak.

    It was contained by 5.30 last evening.
