There are hopes the new stores set for Lambton Quay will draw people into Wellington's CBD

Global cosmetic giant Sephora is planning to open up a shop on the popular Wellington thoroughfare.

There are also reports the David Jones building will become home to a variety of smaller retailers after the department store closes its doors in June.

Wellington Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Simon Arcus says the changes could have a positive impact.

He says it's critical that any new retailers increase foot traffic in the central city.
