Horizons Regional Council says the Makino floodgate may need to be closed overnight

Horizons Regional Council says the Makino floodgate may need to be closed overnight

Emergency Management Controller Ged Shirley says the forecast indicates rainfall of around 8 to 10mm.

He says this may raise the Makino Stream to the trigger level of 1.5 metres -- the level that required two gate operations earlier this week.

Shirley says while the rainfall might not be significant, the area is already saturated.
