Flooding preparations - as Otago braces for two months' rain - in two days

Flooding preparations - as Otago braces for two months' rain - in two days

A Red Heavy Rain Warning's in force for North Otago, Dunedin and coastal Clutha - with up to 150 millimetres expected.

Emergency management crews are ready to respond - and Minister-in charge Mark Mitchell is heading to Dunedin.

Herald reporter Ben Tomsett says Dunedin City Council has sand bags for residents.

He says if there's any flooding, it will likely start in South Dunedin.

Clutha Mayor Bryan Cadogan is urging residents to follow official information - and not get into trouble rubber necking.

Orange Warnings continue for parts of Bay of Plenty and Tairawhiti.
