A truck driver who slammed into two stationary vehicles and killed a man in Napier, had been sending snapchat messages totalling 44 minutes on her phone, before the crash

Open Justice reports Sarah Hope Schmidt has been sentenced to two years and four months in jail - for dangerous driving causing death and injury.

22-year-old Caleb Baker died when the 30-tonne truck and trailer hit his vehicle on the Hawke's Bay Expressway in February.

The other driver hit still hasn't been able to return to work.

It's been revealed in the Napier District Court the 25-year-old truck driver had spent almost 40-percent of her two-hour journey before the crash, on her phone.
