A children's protection organisation says two child deaths early in 2025 is tragic

A children's protection organisation says two child deaths early in 2025 is tragic

A 37-year-old man's been accused of murdering a young child after bringing a body to Manukau Police Station overnight yesterday.

He appeared in court yesterday, and was remanded in custody without plea to reappear at the High Court in February.

On New Year's Day, a 34-year-old man was accused of murdering a baby in Hamilton.

Child Matters CEO, Jane Searle, says it's not the first time a year's begun in such a way.

She says we started 2022 in a similar way, so it's not unheard of and it is a trend.
