Kate Winslet thinks Brits often struggle "talking about grief"

The 50-year-old actress has made her directorial debut with Goodbye June, which follows a family coming together as their mother passes away, and Kate hopes the new movie can help to change some attitudes in the UK.

The British actress - whose son Joe wrote the script for the film -explained: "In this country, we're not necessarily so good at processing, especially when it comes to talking about grief.

"And so hopefully through this film, which is also very funny, hopefully through this film, people might see something of themselves and connect with it in that way."

The new film stars the likes of Dame Helen Mirren, Timothy Spall, Andrea Riseborough and Johnny Flynn, and Timothy has admitted to being wowed by the first-time director.

He said: "I worked with her when she was 20. She was impressive then, just before she got Titanic ... and she's paid attention. She's listened. She's a great actress.

"She knows how it works, and she helps other actors to do the best they can. And she's all over the crew. She's great with them. She's paid attention in every department."

Meanwhile, Kate previously revealed that she finds the continued fascination with Titanic to be "curious".

The actress starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the 1997 romantic-disaster film, and Kate still finds it odd that her comments about Titanic remain the "take-home" from some of her interviews.

Asked if she gets annoyed by questions about the record-breaking movie, Kate told 60 Minutes: "No. I tell you what I do sometimes find just curious, I suppose, is whatever I say about Titanic will often be the take-home.

"I just think, 'Oh, well, there were those things that I said about the film I was talking about,' and yet that's the one thing. So that's the only thing that sometimes I just think, hmmmm."
