Chloe Madeley felt “like death” when she was in “the best shape possible”

The 33-year-old star admitted she felt a “tremendous amount of pressure” to be at peak fitness but she no longer thinks it’s worth putting in so much effort, particularly because it leaves her feeling “tired and grumpy”

She told Closer magazine: “When I first started training, I had all the confidence in the world but, somewhere in the middle, I felt a tremendous amount of pressure to always look in shape because of what I do.

“That was a horrible period, but I’ve matured a lot in terms of my relationship with my body.

“I know how to get in ‘shredded shape’, but I know how much work that takes and it’s not worth my whole life.

"When I look in the best shape possible, someone would look at me and be like, Oh my gosh, she must be so fit and healthy.’

“That’s when I feel like death. My body fat is low, I’m tired and grumpy. It’s like permanent PMS all the time. People don’t realise that.”

The personal trainer – who is married to rugby player James Haskell - admitted her more relaxed approach to her physique came as a result of needing to find ways to get through lockdown.

She said: “I had a big photoshoot booked at the end of June, so when the country shut down last March, I was in the thick of what I call a ‘fat loss phase’.

“Then about two weeks in, my husband said, ‘By all means eat healthily and train, but I want to have date nights and do things together we can enjoy.’

“I was like, ‘God you’re right – I can’t diet through lockdown.’ So I just came out of it.”

And Chloe no longer cares about what she looks like.

She added: “I don’t care how I look most of he time now. As long as I’m fit, active and healthy.

“I feel pretty good in my own skin, but it took me years to get here.”
