    Tongan coach Kristian Woolf says they wanted to play New Zealand at this time of the year, but the NZRL weren't keen.

    He was asked whether they were given a reason...



    Woolf says the next conversation was with Australian coach Mal Meninga who jumped at the prospect.

    The Kangaroos players have taken a one-off pay cut from their normal $20,000 match fee.

    A Kiwis-Tonga test next June is a more likely option.
