Joyce Austin, the sole director of a wine exporting company, New Zealand Boutique Wines, was prosecuted by the Ministry of Primary Industries.
She claimed the certification process was complex and took too long, which is why she advised her clients to record wine samples as having already been certified for export.
MPI says every wine exporter must only export wine that meets correct standards and specifications and overseas market access requirements.
