The Government's making changes to the industry to ensure Kiwis get a fair deal.
A pilot scheme will help consumers who haven't switched providers before, and companies will have to include switching information on communications to customers.
Electricity Retailers Association chief executive Cameron Burrows says everyone should compare their plan at least once a year.
He says they've made good progress with about half of all household comparing each year.
But they're encouraged by the steps by the Government to strengthen the powerswitch website.
