China has confirmed human-to-human transmission of the new coronavirus

China has confirmed human-to-human transmission of the new coronavirus

The Guardian's reporting 139 new cases of the strain have been detected ... tripling the number of known infected patients ... three have died.

That takes the total number of cases up to 217, since the virus was first detected in the city of Wuhan last month.

The World Health Organisation will now be meeting to decide whether the virus is an international emergency.
