Some details have been released about two people who were found dead at Lake Taupo on Friday

Police were called to the lake side just after 7am, after a walker made the grisly discovery.

They say they're not in a position to release the names of the people who were found dead, although they were a 49-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man, both from the Bay of Plenty.

The deaths are not being treated as suspicious, and have been referred to the Coroner.
