Luna Rossa's frustrated the Auld Mug holders failed to pay its US 300 thousand dollar entry fee by last Friday's deadline for the World Series regatta in Auckland next month.
Team New Zealand insists it forked over the dosh within seven working days of the deadline on Tuesday, however the notice simply stipulated seven days.
Exclusion would deny the defender valuable competitive time against the challengers.
They won't race again until the America's Cup in March.
