Jodie Turner-Smith has praised women as “supremely powerful beings”

The ‘Queen & Slim’ star has hit out at “patriarchal society” for making women feel as though they’re not as “powerful” as men, as she said childbirth is “some Goddess-level s***”

She said: "The men think they're hard-core, but they could never do what they do while also making a baby. They just couldn't.

“[Giving birth reaffirmed to me that] patriarchal society really is out here, scamming women into thinking that they're not supremely powerful beings, because damn, it's some goddess-level s***."

Jodie welcomed a daughter named Janie into the world with her husband, Joshua Jackson, in April 2020, and also opened up on the ways in which becoming a first-time parent has been more difficult than ever amid the coronavirus pandemic.

She added to the January digital cover of ELLE magazine: "Navigating parenthood at any time is difficult, and it's even more difficult without support, when everything is shut down and you can't really see other people or go anywhere. [Luckily], I'm not having to sit on Zoom with her and suddenly become her educator as well as her caretaker."

Meanwhile, the ‘Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse’ actress previously said she found isolation amid the pandemic helpful as a new mother, as it meant she could focus all her energy into her new baby, rather than thinking about work.

She said in October: "I had to learn how to breastfeed and how to be a mom - it really worked out for my baby.”

And the 34-year-old actress and model felt a strong "love" from her family, despite everything that was going on in the outside world including the Black Lives Matter movement.

She added: "It doesn’t make sense that we still have to be screaming to the world that our lives matter. It doesn’t make sense that Black people are being senselessly mowed down by the police. It doesn’t make sense, this country’s response to the global pandemic.

"It doesn’t make sense that so many people are unemployed, and the government is bailing out corporations. But what did make sense, inside of that, was the love of my family."
