Moves are afoot to take a privatisation proposal off the table for Wellington's new central library building

Moves are afoot to take a privatisation proposal off the table for Wellington's new central library building

Councillors meet again this week to discuss the draft Long Term Plan.

A chaotic meeting last month saw Mayor Andy Foster introduce 11 last-minute amendments to try and save costs, including the idea to sell off part of the new library once built.

He got it over the line nine votes to six, but Councillor Laurie Foon is now reconsidering her support.

It comes after the Green Party voiced concerns about how councillors affiliated with the Greens voted.

Foon says they're working on a new option for public for consultation, which would keep the library in community ownership.
