???1;Civil defence minister Kiri Allan is promising to have robust discussions with officials -- following Friday's tsunami evacuations

Major quakes off the East Cape and Kermadec Islands forced thousands of people to flee.

Far North District Council is investigating why some of its tsunami alerts failed during a power outage, and Hawke's Bay Civil Defence is reviewing its communications.

Allan will also meet with officials first thing this morning for some robust discussions.

She says while the system has worked out well overall, there are still questions about whether the alerts went out fast enough to everyone who needed to get them.

Allan says people still need to take initiative, and evacuate if they need to.
