Matt Cardle’s girlfriend didn’t know he was famous

The 37-year-old singer met Amber Hernaman online and the 30-year-old beauty was left baffled when they were out on a date and a fan came over to take a picture with the former ‘X Factor’ champion

Matt told new! magazine: “We met online. I wanted to meet someone who didn’t know about anything I’d been doing.

“We went to see Lionel Richie in concert and someone came up to me asking to get a picture and she was like, ‘What the f***?’

“I was like, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll tell you about that later.’"

Although the couple are very happy together, they’re not thinking too far into their future plans just yet.

Asked if they want to have children, Matt said: “Maybe one day - but for now, I’m still fully focused on making music.”

Meanwhile, the ‘We’re The Butterflies’ singer has reflected on his battle with drug addiction and admitted entering rehab in 2014 was a “life-saving” experience.

He said: “I didn’t want to go [to rehab] to start with.

"But then I realised there were only a couple of other options, which was probably to not be here now if I didn’t, or really lose everything.

    “Rehab was life-saving.

“I was on a lot of drugs at the time and a lot while I was in there for the first couple of weeks.

“They wean you off very slowly.

“So I did spend a vast amount of time there pretty out of it.

“You never think you’re going to end up somewhere like that. The thing is, you don’t know how bad you are.

“One of the dangers with any substance is it keeps you off the bottom but it keeps you right next to it.

“It only takes one thing before you actually hit the bottom.”
