Ellen DeGeneres had consumed three "weed drinks" and two "sleep pills" before driving Portia de Rossi to hospital in March

The 63-year-old star admitted "adrenaline kicked in" when she found her wife doubled over with pain last month and though she admitted it was "probably not safe" for her to get behind the wheel, she still insisted on escorting the actress to the emergency room, where she was later diagnosed with appendicitis

After explaining she isn't a big fan of marijuana, she told talk show host Jimmy Kimmel: "So, Chelsea Handler told me about these weed drinks, they're called Cann, and they have CBD or [THC] - I don't know what the good thing is.

"I drank one, and I didn't feel anything, so I drank three, and then I took two melatonin sleep pills. And I'm laying in bed, and I realise [Portia's] not in bed.

"She's moaning. I get out of bed, and she's on the ground on all fours, and I said, 'You're not OK.' She goes, 'I'm OK.' I said, 'No, unless you're playing Twister by yourself, you're not OK.' So I rushed her to the emergency room."

Concerned, Jimmy clarified: "You drove her yourself?"

Ellen confirmed: "I did. I mean, I kicked in, like my adrenaline, because I just had to rush her there. It's probably not safe." She added with a laugh, "I shouldn't be saying any of this."

The 'Finding Dory' star previously reassured fans that the 48-year-old actress was "feeling much better" after having her appendix removed.

Speaking on her own talk show, she had said: "I rush her to the ER, and we're driving and she's in so much pain, and I'm worried about her, and I don't know what's wrong with her, because as you know, I grew up Christian Science, so my best guess was a demon. So anyway, they gave her a CT scan and I didn't know what that was."

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ellen had to leave her wife in the hospital.

She continued: "The next morning, they call and they said, 'It's the appendix. We have to take the appendix out.'"

The host added how her spouse was "in a lot of pain" after surgery, but is "feeling much better now."

She said: "She's home. She came home late yesterday. Not all of her, she left her appendix at the hospital."
