Rototuna Junior High in Hamilton north opened five years ago and has 13-hundred and 80 students - 160 more than its limit.
The adjoining Rototuna Senior High for Year 11s to 13s is just 16 students away from reaching its 800 capacity.
There are plans to bring in temporary modular classrooms next term - and senior students will be ferried to Waikato University.
Construction on three new blocks - one each for senior and junior high and a shared space - is set to begin next year.
