    A man has died in hospital after being restrained in custody in Manukau on Monday


    Police arrested the man in his 20s, in Otara for breaching electronically monitored bail.

    They say he was placed in a restraint chair for his own safety - after he behaved erratically and tried to injure himself.

    When his condition deteriorated he was transported to Middlemore Hospital.

    Investigations are under way and the Independent Police Conduct Authority has been notified.
