There are 33 new cases in Auckland - including a mystery case - bringing the outbreak to 955.
It's a big hike on a downward trend which saw cases down to 11 on Friday.
But the Health Ministry had warned more cases were expected among 350 very close contacts.
Our new mystery case has seven infected people in their household, all included in today's tally.
Canterbury University modeller Michael Plank says once Delta gets into a home most become sick.
He says as we discover new households there will be big clusters of cases all together - causing numbers to jump up and down.
Aucklanders are urged to get tested - especially in Massey, Favona, Henderson, Otara, Papatoetoe, Mangere and Manurewa.
More than eight and a half thousand tests were conducted yesterday - about half in Auckland.
