The man in the middle for one of the most controversial cricket tests on New Zealand soil has died

The man in the middle for one of the most controversial cricket tests on New Zealand soil has died

Kiwi umpire Fred Goodall has passed away, age 83.

Goodall stood for the second test against the West Indies in 1980 in Christchurch, when the tourists - unhappy with his officiating - initially refused to emerge after tea on day three.

The following day Goodall was elbowed in the back by Colin Croft at the end of his bowling run-up, with the Windies paceman unhappy with no ball decisions.

Goodall stood in 24 Tests and 15 ODIs.
