Operation SafeStart is kicking off in Wellington tonight

Operation SafeStart is kicking off in Wellington tonight

It's aiming to educate drivers about driving when tired, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, and driving without a seatbelt on.

From 5.30 tonight through to one tomorrow morning, police officers will breath test drivers throughout the Wellington region, and check for fatigue and that everyone is buckled in.

It comes as a partnership between Police and Waka Kotahi.

Minister for Police Poto Williams says New Zealand has lost 289 people on our roads already this year, which is too many families struggling with the tragedy.
