The National Maori Authority says most Maori and low income earners won't own homes unless there's dramatic economic policy change

CoreLogic's December House Price Index shows the average New Zealand home now has a value of just over one million dollars.
Authority Chair Matthew Tukaki says this Government and subsequent government's need to ensure wages keep up with the cost of living.
He says people also need to be able to save for a deposit and there's short-term changes that would help.
Tukaki says the first home owner grant should be tripled so people, particularly young people, can get on the property ladder.
