From April 13, vaccinated tourists from Australia will be able to enter the country without isolating.
The Lake Dunstan Trail, which opened in May last year, has already been used by more than 62-thousand domestic visitors.
Tourism Central Otago general manager Dylan Rushbrook is reassuring people the trail won't be packed with foreigners once the borders open.
He says there's a cap on the number of hire bikes available, which will limit the number of overseas visitors riding at a time.
