The first covid-19 wage subsidy fraud case has come to light

Auckland man Hun Min Im has been charged for allegedly submitting false applications, totalling 1.88 million dollars.

The 33 year old is alleged to have received 600 thousand dollars from the total, which he attempted to claim by using applications which contained false information.

The Serious Fraud Office has filed a number of charges against the man under the Crimes Act including obtaining by deception and dishonest use of a document.

He entered not guilty pleas to all charges in the Auckland District Court today and is expected back on November 23.

Ten other investigations by the SFO are on-going.
