Firefighters have managed to contain a large blaze at an old pub in southern Dunedin

Emergency services were sent to Mitchells Tavern on South Road, in Caversham before 4am.

A firefighter at the scene says there were initially about five crews in attendance.

He says the fire was well-established in the kitchen area, but crews worked smartly to put it out.

Everyone's been accounted for.
