Jo Aleh and Molly Meech lead the charge after a mixed opening day for New Zealand at sailing's World Championships in The Netherlands

The 49erFX pair are seventh overall after placing third, fourth and seventh across the three races in The Hague .

Several other Kiwi crews struggled to come to grips with the strong current coursing through the North Sea.

Isaac McHardie and Will McKenzie are 13th in the 49er - while Logan Dunning Beck and Oscar Gunn sit 21st.

The world championships is the first opportunity for many of the 10 Olympic classes to qualify a boat for next year's Games.
