A former deputy school principal convicted of possessing child abuse and bestiality images has been sent to jail for more than two years

Lawrence Peter Stephens, pleaded guilty to charges for possessing 218 images - and making an objectionable publication.

At sentencing in the North Shore District Court this afternoon, his former employer lost a bid for permanent name suppression.

The school still can't be named because its lawyer indicated he would be launching an appeal.
