Auckland's Mayor wants congestion charging... but it's unclear how much it will cost motorists

Council will consider an Auckland Transport report on the scheme this Thursday, to relieve traffic jams and bring in revenue.

People will have to pay a fee to drive on busy roads during peak hours - or choose to drive at off-peak times.

Wayne Brown says it will probably cost five-bucks, but couldn't say if that's for the whole day.

Asked whether people will need to pay the fee once in the morning and on the way home, Brown says people will soon figure out it's best to drive at different times.
