The supply of primary school teachers is projected to exceed demand over the next two years

The Education Ministry projects low, medium and high supply scenarios.

While primary teacher supply is projected to meet demand in all scenarios - the Ministry says there will still be recruitment challenges in some schools.

At secondary teacher level, supply is expected to broadly meet demand in the medium and high scenarios - but not the low one.

The Ministry still expects shortages in some locations and subjects - particularly science, technology, maths and te reo Maori.

It says growing this workforce will continue to be a priority.
