Monique Barry's more motivated than ever after her first taste of top tier professional tennis at the ASB Classic

The 21 year old Aucklander went down fighting 7-6, 6-2 to Russian Elina Avanesyan in the opening round.

The world number 568 Barry will now turn her attention to tournaments on the second tier ITF challenger circuit.

She's determined not to make a maiden appearance at her home WTA event a one off.
