Orange range warnings issued in parts of the West Coast and Fiordland, will remain until tonight, and in the Tararua Ranges until early tomorrow.
Rain is expected to reach the North Island overnight, as conditions in the South clear up.
MetService metereologist Dan Corrigan, says the North Island is in for hot temperatures tonight, not dipping below the high teens, that will cool off Sunday morning.
He says things will return to normal after the rain moves off, and the northwesterly winds make way for a southerly.
