Stats NZ data for February, shows overall food price inflation's at 2-point-1 percent -- the lowest it's been since May 2021.
However, the cost of restaurant meals and ready to eat food, has gone up by 6-point-7 percent compared to February 2023.
Infometrics chief economist Brad Olsen says the costs cover both the food itself, and the labour costs.
He says among the contributing factors are much larger minimum wage increases over the past couple of years, low unemployment, and higher wage costs.
