Gisborne's Mayor is reassuring the community, the massive brawl which has left two men dead, does not happen everyday

Gisborne's Mayor is reassuring the community, the massive brawl which has left two men dead, does not happen everyday

Two people died in the massive fight involving about 100 people at a 21st birthday party on Lytton Road in Elgin.

Three people are in hospital with serious to critical injuries, believed to have been caused by stabbing.

Police understand the brawl broke out when two uninvited guests arrived - it involved gang members but wasn't a rival gang conflict.

Gisborne Mayor Rehette Stoltz says she's in discussions with Police and Police Minister Mark Mitchell.

She says there's more Police presence around the area and at the hospital as well.
