Qantas is increasing services to Te Wai Pounamu, from October - almost doubling capacity, between Christchurch, and Melbourne and Brisbane.
It's also putting on more flights between Wellington and Melbourne, between September and next April.
Christchurch Airport chief executive Justin Watson says the decision is a response to strong tourism demand, and a vote of confidence in Christchurch and the South Island.
Wellington Airport chief executive Matt Clarke is also welcoming the news, as good for travellers.
