    Two men have been charged with burglary in Mount Maunganui, after an early morning chase that left a third man dead


    Police were called to a Surf Road building site about 3.30am today, alerted to attempted timber theft.

    Two people were arrested trying to escape on foot, and the third ran into the sea.

    He later washed up on Omanu Beach and couldn't be revived.

    A post-mortem will be carried out in coming days.

    Two others are due in court charged with burglary, assaulting Police and driving disqualified.
