Uncertainty as to whether youth unemployment will come down in the second half of the year

Uncertainty as to whether youth unemployment will come down in the second half of the year

The latest Stats NZ figures revealed the unemployment rate among those aged 15 to 19 hit 23 percent, the highest in more than a decade.

It comes as unemployment rose to five-point-one percent -- the highest since September 2020.

Former Reserve Bank economist Michael Reddell says many global factors are playing a big role.

He says things should improve domestically with interest rates coming down, but the world is uncertain at the moment.
