Rangitikei District Council, says it's hoping to switch over to its solution for Marton's water woes in the coming months

Rangitikei District Council, says it's hoping to switch over to its solution for Marton's water woes in the coming months

It says levels of algae byproduct geosmin in the North Island town's supply, have increased, leading to taste and smell issues.

As a result, it's organised a tanker to bring in water from outside the town for residents until further notice.

Mayor Andy Watson, says they had hoped to switch to an alternate supply of bore water early this year, but will now switch in the winter.

He says there's still some fine-tuning to get right, but it's also easier to change water source during water.
