Rising prices could be prompting Kiwis to change their Christmas spread

Rising prices could be prompting Kiwis to change their Christmas spread

Cabbage, bread, kiwifruit, steak and lamb chops rose sharply the past year, and butter, tomatoes, potatoes, beef mince, milk, cheese and broccoli are significantly dearer.

But snack foods have barely changed - and rice, mushrooms, lettuce and carrots are cheaper.

Infometrics Principal Economist Brad Olsen says some may choose to pass on red meat.

He says people will have to shop around a bit more, and may have to reconsider what the Christmas menu looks like because of the price rises.
