Warnings of missed opportunities ahead of next year's Companies Act reforms

Warnings of missed opportunities ahead of next year's Companies Act reforms

    24 November 2024
Among the Government's proposals include unique identifiers for company directors, and improving outcomes for creditors in insolvencies.

But Auckland University business lecturer Dr Lynn Buckley says one missed opportunity is scrapping the beneficial ownership register.

She says removing it decreases transparency between businesses and big shareholders.

Buckley says she's also concerned about the proposal repeal of the capacity of directors to consider environmental, social and governance factors in making decisions.
