Canterbury's pushing ahead of Wellington, when it comes to rising insurance premiums

Canterbury's pushing ahead of Wellington, when it comes to rising insurance premiums

    29 August 2025
Stats NZ figures show premiums have risen six-percent in the past year, with house premiums up 9.1 percent and contents premiums up 10.3

Insurance comparison website Quashed has recorded steep rises in insurance quotes for Wellington homes in recent years.

But chief executive Justin Lim says quotes on Canterbury homes are now rising even faster.

He says Wellington's still elevated, but Canterbury is now seeing much steeper rises in premiums than Auckland.
