    Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Wednesday 18 September

    Scattered rain clearing tomorrow morning and becoming fine.

    Winds
    Westerly gales easing this evening. Mostly light winds tomorrow.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    2600 metres, lowering to 1300 metres in the south from this afternoon. Becoming
    2000 metres everywhere tomorrow.

    Kaikoura ranges, Nelson Lakes and Kahurangi National Parks
    A few showers, clearing this evening. Mainly fine tomorrow.

    Remaining South Island mountain areas
    Occasional snow showers, becoming confined to Fiordland this evening.

    Winds
    Westerlies, rising to gale about Fiordland tomorrow.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    About 1400 metres in the north sloping to 1000 metres in the south. Becoming
    1400 metres everywhere tomorrow.
