    Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Wednesday 25 February


    north island


    Mainly fine. A few showers about Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki this afternoon and evening, then about Tongariro National Park tomorrow afternoon and evening.

    WINDS
    Southerlies, becoming strong in the north this evening, then dying out tomorrow morning. Northwesterlies developing tomorrow evening, gale in the south.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    Above 3000 metres.

    Kahurangi to Arthur's Pass National Parks, and also the Kaikoura ranges
    Partly cloudy with isolated showers, becoming fine overnight, but isolated showers return late tomorrow.

    Aoraki/Mt Cook to Mt Aspiring National Parks
    Partly cloudy with occasional showers about the Main Divide, mainly from tomorrow afternoon.

    Fiordland National Park
    Fine, but isolated showers developing tomorrow morning, turning to rain with heavy falls tomorrow afternoon.

    WINDS
    Southwesterlies, easing overnight with northerlies developing tomorrow morning, gale at upper levels from afternoon.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    Above 3500 metres.
