    Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Sunday 26 June


    north island



    Tongariro and Egmont National Parks, and the Tararua Range
    Occasional showers.

    Remaining North Island mountain areas
    Fine spells and the odd shower.

    WINDS
    Northwesterlies turning southwest tomorrow.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    About 2200 metres.


    south island



    Kaikoura ranges
    Mainly fine.

    Remainder of South Island mountain areas
    Occasional rain or showers, becoming isolated from the south today and tomorrow morning. Isolated showers turning to rain south of Mt Cook again tomorrow, with snow to 1500 metres and possible evening thunderstorms in Fiordland.

    WINDS
    Northwesterlies, rising to severe gale about Fiordland tomorrow evening.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    About 2000 metres, lowering to 1500 metres in the south for a time tonight and tomorrow morning.
