    Mainly fine. Patchy drizzle about the western slopes of Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki, Tongariro National Park and Tararua ranges, clearing this morning.

    Strong Northwesterlies, gale or severe gale south of Kaweka Forest Park, easing this afternoon.

    Above 3000 metres.

    Mt Aspiring and Fiordland National Park
    Cloudy, with rain easing to showers this afternoon.

    Remaining areas
    Fine, apart from cloudy periods with the odd shower west of the divide this morning.

    Strong westerlies, gale in exposed places, easing by evening.
