    Significant Weather Statement
    Fronts associated with Cyclone Tam bring severe gale easterlies and heavy rain to many parts of the North Island and northern South Island.

    Northland, Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula
    Rain, with heavy falls. Thunderstorms possible tomorrow.

    Waikato to Taranaki, including the central high country, also Bay of Plenty
    Cloudy with scattered rain, becoming heavier and more widespread tomorrow.

    Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa
    Occasional rain, with heavy falls about Gisborne.

    Whanganui to Wellington
    Becoming cloudy today, with scattered rain from tomorrow afternoon.

    Nelson to Westland
    Mainly fine today. Becoming cloudy tomorrow, with scattered rain about Nelson and Buller.

    Marlborough, Canterbury and North Otago
    Mostly cloudy with isolated light showers.

    The remainder of Otago, Southland and Fiordland
    Mainly fine. Cloud increasing tomorrow.

    Chatham Islands
    Mostly cloudy. Chance of a shower or two.

    Friday
    North Island: Periods of heavy rain, easing in the south. Northeasterly gales, possibly severe, easing. South Island: Light showers in the east, easing. Rain developing elsewhere.

    Saturday
    North Island: Periods of rain in the north and west, a few showers elsewhere. South Island: Rain in the north and west, possibly heavy, spreading east at times.

    Sunday
    North Island: Rain in the northeast, with heavy falls. Showers elsewhere. South Island: Heavy rain in the north and west, spreading east later. A few showers elsewhere.

    Chatham Islands
    Fine spells on Friday, becoming cloudy with a few showers on Saturday, then turning to rain for a time on Sunday. Northeasterlies, becoming strong on Saturday, then turning northwest for a time on Sunday.
