Recreational Marine: Bay of Plenty Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 1631hrs Thursday 05-Feb-2026 by MetService Situation: The ridge remains slow moving and dominates the country most of today, however a front pushes onto the lower South Island by the end of the day. The front then weakens as it moves northwards over the South Island tomorrow, while the ridge persists across the North Island. Over the weekend, the ridge dominates central and northern New Zealand, while a front moves onto the South Island during Sunday and weakens. On Monday, a trough moves onto central New Zealand from the Tasman Sea, while the ridge extends over southern and northern parts of the country. Forecast for Inshore waters from Matakana Island to Mayor Island to Motiti Island and then east to Torere River mouth Nil warnings Thursday: Northwest 10 knots, easing to variable 5 knots in the evening. Sea slight. Fine. Northeast swell half a metre. Friday: Variable 5 knots. Westerly 15 knots developing in the morning. Turning northerly 15 knots in the afternoon, then becoming westerly 15 knots but northeast 15 knots east of Motiti Island. Sea slight. Fine. Easterly swell 1 metre developing. Saturday: Westerly 15 knots but northeast 15 knots east of Motiti Island. Becoming westerly 15 knots everywhere in the morning. Fine. Northerly swell 1 metre dying out.
