Recreational Marine: Christchurch Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 1132hrs Friday 19-Dec-2025 by MetService Situation: A series of fronts move northeast over the country today, followed by a cold and showery southwesterly flow tomorrow. A weak ridge of high pressure covers most of New Zealand on Sunday, but a front moves onto Northland during the second part of the day. On Monday, another front approaches New Zealand from Tasman Sea. This front moves east over the South Island on Tuesday, and becomes slow-moving over the North Island. Forecast for Inshore waters from Lyttelton Harbour to the Waimakariri River mouth * Strong wind advisory in force * Friday: Northerly 15 knots. Turning southwest 25 knots gusting 35 knots in the afternoon, easing to 20 knots early evening and to 15 knots late evening. Sea becoming rough for a time in the afternoon and early evening. Cloudy with poor visibility in rain developing in the afternoon. Possible afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Saturday: Southwest 15 knots, changing northerly 10 knots in the morning. Becoming southwest 10 knots in the evening. Sea slight. Fair visibility in scattered showers. Possible thunderstorms from afternoon.
