![]() Recreational Marine: Christchurch Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 2252hrs Thursday 18-Sep-2025 by MetService Situation: A southwest flow over Aotearoa weakens today as a ridge builds over the country. Northwesterlies strengthen over the far south tonight, and the rest of the South Island tomorrow, ahead of a front approaching from the Tasman Sea. The ridge over the North Island moves slowly eastwards as the front makes its way northwards over the South Island during Sunday, stalling in central New Zealand by the end of the day. On Monday, the front lies slow moving over central parts of the country while a northwest flow develops over the South Island. The front crosses the North Island on Tuesday as a second front moves onto the lower South Island. Forecast for Inshore waters from Lyttelton Harbour to the Waimakariri River mouth Nil warnings Friday: Southwest 15 knots, easing to variable 5 knots in the morning. Becoming northeast 20 knots in the evening. Sea becoming moderate in the evening. Fair visibility in scattered showers, clearing to fine in the morning. Saturday: Northeast 20 knots. Partly cloudy. Sunday: Northerly 20 knots, easing to variable 5 knots later. A few showers developing. Monday: Variable 5 knots, becoming northerly 15 knots for a time in the morning.
