    GALE for COOK

    Situation:
    Today a ridge of high pressure over northern and central New Zealand moves away to the east as a low deepens in the Tasman Sea, and a front moves onto Fiordland. Tomorrow, the front pushes north reaching central New Zealand. Meanwhile, the low ends the day over the Cook Straight On Thursday, the deep low pulls away to the east followed by a west to southwest flow. On Friday, a very cold southerly flow is expected to affect southern and central New Zealand, while showery westerlies affect northern New Zealand. This flow persists through Saturday with the cooler temperatures spreading northward.

    Valid to 1 am Tuesday for Wellington Harbour and the south coast from Sinclair Head to Baring Head.
    Strong wind advisory.
    Tuesday: Northerly 15 knots but 20 knots about the south coast. Rising to northerly 20 knots but 25 knots gusting 35 knots about the south coast in the morning. Sea becoming rough about the south coast in the morning. Fine, then turning cloudy in the afternoon. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southwest swell 3 metres easing to 1 metre. For Castlepoint - Southerly swell 3 metres easing to 1 metre.

    Outlook until midnight Friday:
    Wednesday: Northerly 25 knots. A few showers, turning to rain. For the South
    Coast and Palliser Bay - Southwest swell 1 metre dying out. For
    Castlepoint - Southerly swell 1 metre dying out. Easterly swell 2
    metres developing.
    Thursday: Northerly 30 knots, changing southerly 20 knots early. Turning
    northwest 20 knots later. Rain, clearing. For the South Coast and
    Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 2 metres developing. For Castlepoint -
    Northeast swell 2 metres dying out. Southerly swell 2 metres
    developing.
    Friday: Northwest 15 knots, changing southerly 20 knots early. Rain
    developing. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 2
    metres. For Castlepoint - Southerly swell 2 metres easing.
